Job Description (Primary Teaching Assistant)
As a Primary Teaching Assistant at The Duston School, you will play a vital role in supporting the teaching and learning process in a dynamic and inclusive primary classroom. The role involves working closely with the class teacher and pupils to create a positive, engaging, and effective learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the class teacher in delivering planned lessons and activities
- Provide one-to-one or small group support to pupils, including those with special educational needs (SEN)
- Assist in the preparation of classroom materials and learning resources
- Supervise students during non-classroom times, such as break or lunch
- Foster a safe, positive, and inclusive learning atmosphere
- Help monitor student progress and report observations to teachers
- Encourage social and emotional development through positive reinforcement
- Assist with administrative and organisational tasks as required by the teaching staff
Qualifications and Requirements:
- A minimum of GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths
- Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is preferred
- Experience working with children in a school or childcare setting
- Knowledge of child development and learning strategies
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Patience, flexibility, and a proactive attitude
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
