Field Service Technician

Key Responsibilities:

  • On-Site Maintenance and Repair: Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of Dematic’s automated systems, including conveyors, sorters, automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS), and other warehouse automation equipment.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical support and guidance to customers, addressing and resolving issues related to system performance and operation. Serve as the primary point of contact for technical inquiries and support requests.
  • System Upgrades: Assist with the installation and commissioning of new systems and equipment upgrades. Ensure that all modifications are performed in accordance with company standards and customer requirements.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance to ensure the longevity and reliability of systems. Identify potential issues and implement corrective actions to prevent system downtime.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of service activities, including maintenance logs, service reports, and parts usage. Ensure that all documentation is up-to-date and accessible.
  • Customer Training: Provide training to customers on the proper operation and maintenance of Dematic systems. Help customers understand system capabilities and best practices for optimal performance.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines while performing on-site service. Ensure that all work is conducted in a safe and compliant manner, minimizing risk to personnel and equipment.
  • Travel: Travel to customer sites across New Zealand to perform on-site service and support. Overnight travel may be required based on project needs and customer locations.


  • Experience: Proven experience as a Field Service Technician or in a similar role, preferably within the automation or industrial equipment sectors. Experience with material handling systems is a plus.
  • Education: Technical degree or certification in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field. Relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • Technical Skills: Strong technical skills with proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing electrical, mechanical, and electronic systems. Knowledge of PLC programming and automation systems is highly desirable.
  • Problem-Solving: Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues efficiently.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and provide clear instructions and support.
  • Customer Service: Strong customer service orientation with a commitment to providing exceptional support and building positive customer relationships.
  • Flexibility: Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work schedules.
  • Physical Fitness: Good physical condition with the ability to perform manual labor, including lifting heavy objects and working in various environments.
